Just a few hours after he assisted his team, the Atlanta Falcons, in beating the Denver Broncos 27-21 on “Monday Night Football,” running back Michael Turner(pictured) was arrested in the wee hours Tuesday morning for alleged drunken driving and speeding, reports the….
In addition to copping a DUI, Turner was said to have been clocked going 97 mph in a 65-mph zone, according to authorities.
The 30-year-old was cuffed, taken to an Atlanta jail, then released a couple of hours later on a $2,179 bond.
At the game, though, the young NFL superstar scored his 51st touchdown as a Falcon, which set a franchise record. Turner was also a stellar player when he attended Northern Illinois University, leaving the institution with the school records for rushing yards (1,941), touchdowns (13), and all-purpose yards (1,038).
In March 2008, the 5’10″ nearly 250-pound athlete signed a six-year, $34.5-million contract with the Falcons, with $15 million guaranteed. It is alleged that this recent arrest is Turner’s first run-in with the law. Usually, the league doesn’t hand down suspensions to a player who is arrested for DUI and never had a previous drug-related issue. The young player could face a suspension from the team, though, but that remains to be seen.
Earlier this year, Turner’s baby momma Rasheeda Walker and current girlfriend Elizabeth Delacruz made headlines when they got in to a nasty brawl. According to Walker, when she went to Turner’s residence to discuss his child neglect to their two children and her current pregnancy (she is carrying their third child), she ended up being ambushed by Delacruz who allegedly beat her with a golf club.
Not surprisingly, Delacruz told another story. The girlfriend says that Walker actually broke in to the house via a back door and began assaulting her.
Turner reportedly broke up the fight between the women, and police reported that both Walker and Delacruz were scratched up and suffered minor head wounds. While neither woman wanted to press charges, Walker was issued a criminal trespass warning by authorities.
