A 43-year-old St. Louis man has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action after he allegedly shot his uncle to death over an argument debating the appropriate name of the meat they were preparing to cook,John Cunningham (pictured) reportedly got into the deadly dispute with his maternal uncle, Lessie Lowe, 44, at the uncle’s St. Louis home on Monday night. In the middle of preparing the meat, the men disagreed over whether the cuts were pork steaks, which Cunningham believed was the proper term. Lowe argued they were pork chops.

The disagreement became physical around 1 p.m. and the men had to be separated. But, Cunningham went to another room, got a shotgun and shot his uncle dead. Lowe died at a local hospital of his injuries.

Here is what a family member had to say about Lowe and Cunningham:

L.C. Lowe of Hazelwood, who is Lessie Lowe’s oldest brother and one of 17 siblings, said Lessie Lowe was a “smart young man” who liked to fix cars and make other repairs. L.C. Lowe said he wasn’t at the home on Hiller Place when his brother was slain, but that he knew Cunningham and his brother were close and liked to hang around together.

By the way, the Post-Dispatch said Cunningham was right about the meat: they were pork steaks.
