It is a first for the Southern Baptist Conference who voted Tuesday to elect New Orleans Pastor, The Rev. Fred Luter Jr., to lead the SBC. You ask why is the important? The SBC has been controversial by supported slavery before the Civil War and segregation for hundreds of years. Maybe we are moving forward in this country.
Luter said in a press conference after the vote that he doesn’t think his election is some kind of token gesture:
…I promise you I’m going to do all I can to make sure this is not just a one-and-done deal”
