Remembering Marvin Gaye: The Man, His Music, The Struggle For Social Change Continues

Marvin Pentz Gaye, Jr., was born on April 2, 1939 in Washington, DC. Marvin was the second of three children born to the Reverend Marvin Gay, Sr., and ordained minister; he began singing in the church at the age of three.  An original member of the “doo-wop” group, “The Moonglows”  but moved on to pursue a solo career after the band broke-up.  Still regarded as one of the most gifted, visionary and enduring talents to ever be launched onto orbit by the Motown hit machine,  Marvin Gaye’s powerful, seductive yet sophisticated three-octave range vocals,  still cited as one of the finest singers of his era.

Known as “The Prince of Motown” his intensely political and personal form of artistic expression, not only redefined his music as a creative force but also expanded the entire genre hit’s impact as an agent for social change.  My favorite album from Marvin Gaye is “I Want You”

We celebrate the songwriter producer and multi-instrumentalist…..Marvin Gaye.
